The Origin Story
Everything started with catering.
In 2016, Justin and Heather Kleinfeldt began cooking events with a small custom BBQ trailer and a simple mindset. Show up early. Cook good food. Take care of people. One event turned into another, then another, and before long Kleinfeldt Family BBQ became known through word of mouth and repeat customers who trusted them to handle important gatherings.
As the catering business grew, so did the vision. In late 2020, they had the opportunity to take over T&A Cafe and create a permanent home for the food they were already known for. The transition was natural. Same people. Same crew. Same pits. Same food. The difference was that now there was a place anyone could walk into any day of the week except Sundays.
Kleinfeldt Family BBQ did not disappear when the restaurant opened. It is very much alive. It remains the premier BBQ catering company in Monterey County. Every event, every tray, and every plate comes from the same kitchen and the same hands that started it all.
How We Cook
We do not cook to copy anyone else.
This is California BBQ. It is shaped by open flame, local influence, and flavors that fit where we live. Our tri tip is cooked slow over an open oak flame and dropped for the sear we want. Our chicken carries bold seasoning with a Cali and Mex influence because that is part of our backyard. Cuts that demand time, like brisket and ribs, are slow smoked and handled with patience until they are ready.
It's never rushed. It's never automatic. timing matters. balance matters. knowing when something is ready matter.

There are two ways to eat with us, but it all comes from the same kitchen.
At T&A Cafe, you can walk in for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and get the same food that built our reputation. It is casual, welcoming, and built for regulars and first timers alike.
Through Kleinfeldt Family BBQ, we bring that same food to your events. From full onsite BBQ to buffet service, drop off, or scheduled pickup, it is the same crew and the same standards, just scaled for groups.
At the end of the day, everything comes back to the same thing. A family run team that takes pride in the food, respects the people they serve, and treats every meal like it matters.
